In his 43 year career in education, Michael Murray has been a teacher and administrator in schools from Minnesota to West Germany. He has a BA from Michigan State University, a Master’s from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and numerous graduate credits from 13 other universities worldwide. Most recently he was an upper elementary principal, food service director, transportation supervisor, and director of technology for Newaygo Public Schools. He was the first principal of Traverse City East Junior High and was Central High School principal in Traverse City before coming to Suttons Bay as Superintendent in January of 2007. He was Region 2 Middle School Principal of the Year, and in 2007 was named Michigan Interscholastic Press Association Administrator of the Year.
Some of Michael’s proudest accomplishments are running the Paris Marathon, climbing the Watzmann mountain in the Alps several times, and being married to the same wife for 43 years, and being the father of a 2008 graduate from Michigan State University. His proudest accomplishments in education are his body of work in building cutting edge, student-centered programs.
